With fall near and changes around the corner, I wanted to do a post on advice for college freshman. But I soon realized this post can be beneficial for all. So bear with me..I'm no expert at giving advice or writing for that matter, but if this post inspires/helps on person..then I know it's worth it.
A connotation that is associated with change is excitement but what people don't seem to talk about is the connotation of fear. Going outside of your comfort zone is never easy but I'm telling you from personal experience it is worth it. Two years ago I made the move to attend college in St.Pete, FL and boy was I a nervous wreck. Not every day was smooth sailing with this transition but I let go and let myself be open to whatever came my way. I gave myself a three week period to be open to anything and knew it will take time to adjust. I told myself after three weeks if I hate college I can just return home. Well, moral of the story I never left and am completely obsessed with my school and everyone and everything that is apart of it. College has truly changed me. And no not everything has been perfect. I've cried, I've felt sad, lonely lost..the list can go on. But, I've also felt genuine happiness and feel that I finally have a purpose. So basically what I am trying to say (to you) is that whatever changes are coming into your life embrace them with all you've got and know things take time. It's okay to miss home, it's okay to feel alone or lost sometimes. Unfortunately feeling uncomfortable comes with the territory of change. Don't be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone, try new things, join a club, get involved.. but always always remember to stay true to you and your values. Because at the end of the day you are all you've got.
please don't ever hesitate to reach out to me with more questions about college/change! I'm here for you. After all in the words of HSM, "we're all in this together."
hugs and best wishes- Maggie
